I’d like to piggyback off the DCFS question with more thoughts and questions to consider.
It’s been suggested that DCFS receives incentives or increased funding for placing children into foster care—if true, that’s deeply concerning. Additionally, they often target families who are less likely to resist, like single-parent households or those with fewer resources, which may stem from systemic biases.
In another case I witnessed, as soon as a lawyer got involved and asked, ‘Let me check with my lawyer first,’ the DCFS investigator completely disappeared. What about families who can’t afford legal help?
Their practices and training need serious investigation. It’s time to hold DCFS accountable to protect families and focus on real cases of abuse and neglect.
