Unfortunately there’s a 3rd problem. US engineers are being replaced by India engineers when the software development can be done remotely. Though my employer is a US Based company, the majority of our engineers are in India. We recently laid off a ton of US people are are being replaced by foreign workers who can do the job remotely and 1/4th the cost.
It’s fascinating—I had no idea Elon Musk was from South Africa. Interestingly, I recently ended a relationship with someone from South Africa who was here on an H2A visa. I’ve also worked with several individuals in the H2A program, which gave me a unique perspective on how the program operates behind the scenes.
